5 Tips for Your First TCG Trade Show as a Vendor

Whether you're selling Magic: The Gathering singles, sealed Pokemon product, or Yu-Gi-Oh! rarities, your first trade show can be both exciting and overwhelming. Here's how to set yourself up for success.

1. Price Your Inventory Before the Event

Nothing slows down sales like having to look up prices on the spot. Before the show:

  • Use TCGPlayer market prices as your baseline for singles
  • Price sealed product competitively — attendees will comparison shop
  • Label everything clearly with price stickers or signs
  • Consider offering bundle deals (e.g., "3 for $10" on bulk rares)

2. Bring the Right Display Setup

First impressions matter. A well-organized table attracts more buyers.

  • Use binder pages in display binders for high-value singles
  • Bring a tablecloth (black works great for making cards pop)
  • Use card stands or risers for featured items
  • Have a price list sign visible from a distance

3. Bring Plenty of Change and Payment Options

Don't lose sales because you can't make change.

  • Start with at least $100 in small bills ($1s, $5s, $10s)
  • Accept Venmo and PayPal at minimum
  • Consider a Square reader for credit cards
  • Have a clear sign showing which payment methods you accept

4. Know Your Audience

NorCal Collectors events attract a mix of casual collectors and competitive players.

  • Commander players love unique foils and staples under $20
  • Pokemon collectors gravitate toward vintage and graded cards
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! players want meta-relevant cards and sealed product
  • Riftbound enthusiasts are always looking for rare pulls and sealed boxes

5. Network and Have Fun

Trade shows aren't just about sales — they're about community.

  • Talk to other vendors and share tips
  • Collect business cards or social media handles
  • Take photos of your setup for social media
  • Engage with buyers — a friendly conversation often leads to bigger purchases
